Principal Message - November 11th

Greetings Husky Families

First off, many thanks to our Friends of Jahn for a wonderful family dance last Friday.  If you were not able to join us, you missed a treat.  Aside from a glow-filled room, there was tons of laughter and dancing.  It was a great way to end the week.

As we continue to navigate “No School November,”  I want to remind you of some upcoming events.  School tours resume this month on the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays.  Our first tour is Tuesday, November 12th at 9 am.  This tour will be followed by an afternoon tour at 4:30.  The afternoon tour is for prospective GoCPS families (the GoCPS window has been extended until 5 pm on Friday, November 22nd).  Pre-K families, if you’re thinking about Jahn as your child’s home for the Fall, please feel free to join us to learn more about our K-8th programming.  Please feel free to spread the word.

This Friday also marks the return of my “Koffee with Kimbrough” series.  The series begins at 8:30 am and our topic of discussion will be around the Skyline curriculum.  Skyline was fully adopted this school year as our curriculum for literacy, social studies, and science.

Next Friday (November 22nd) is our last day of school before our Fall break for Thanksgiving.  During this day, our Student Council (with our Friends of Jahn support) will host a school-wide Fall Ball.  Times for this event will be shared, but we encourage parents to assist us in making this event fun-filled by supporting one or more time slots during that day.

Schools will be closed during the week of November 25th for the Fall break.  We look forward to seeing our students on December 2nd.

We encourage you to review the calendar sent home or our website for other updates.

Continue to assist us in bringing November’s SEL theme (Gratitude) to life, as well as, acknowledging Native American Heritage Month.

Have an amazing week.

Inclement Weather:  Unless there are harsh weather conditions (below 45 degrees, rain or snow), students will remain outside during the morning.  As always, staff members will be outside to support student arrival.  When the weather conditions are bad, students will enter the building at 7:45 am and remain in the auditorium with their class until 8 am.  With the change of weather, we encourage students to dress accordingly.

Recess Weather Guidelines:  Ideally, recess should take place outdoors on school grounds as weather, space and safety permit. Outdoor recess allows children to get fresh air, provides an opportunity for children to engage in moderate to vigorous physical activity and gives students more activity options than most indoor spaces. Outdoor recess is an important part of a child’s school day. Below are the guidelines for determining whether recess is held indoors or outdoors each day.

Weather Recess Held
Above 32 degrees with or without a wind chill Outdoors
15 to 32 degrees with or without wind chill Principal Discretion
Below 15 degrees with or without wind chill Indoors

COVID Update: Staff or students who test positive should follow the respiratory virus guidance.

Drop-off Safety:  Please assist us with the safety for everyone by not dropping students off in the crosswalk.  We have a number of curbside areas where students can be dropped off.  We are also asking that you do not block the alley on Belmont.

CPS Calendar:  This link provides you with the 2024-25 CPS Calendar.  It includes days off and vacations.  Please work to schedule trips or appointments during times students are not in school.  Our school day starts promptly at 8 am.

Meal Menus:  All students, except half day Pre-K,  receive free breakfast and lunch regardless of income.  Students can also bring their own nut-free lunch.  CPS meal menus are here: CPS Meal viewer - Jahn
