Día de los Muertos

As an extension of learning, Jahn's Bilingual Advisory Committee is asking students to help us create an altar on each floor of our school in honor of deceased loved ones and/or significant figures. Students are invited to contribute to their floor's Day of the Dead altar by bringing photographs (no originals) of loved ones or historical figures they admire, or even beloved pets that have passed on.

We also welcome contributions of any of the following traditional altar items to decorate the altars: marigolds (fresh or paper flowers are welcome!), sugar skulls, pan de muerto (wrapped in plastic), papel picado or battery operated candles. The photos or altar decorations can be turned into the teacher directly between October 28 - November 1. Please label the item with your child's name and room number.

This project is optional and intended only to help students better understand the value of cultural traditions. We understand if you choose to not send a photograph due to personal beliefs.

Thank you,

Jahn Bilingual Advisory Committee
