Greetings Husky Families
Week 4 has arrived at Jahn School of Fine Arts and the energy and excitement continues to flow across the campus. During this week, there are a number of activities happening. As always, it will not be complete if you are not in attendance. For starters, September 15th officially kicks off LatinX and Indigenous Peoples’ Heritage Month. Please take time to recognize the contributions and influence of these groups of people. Our kick-off event for this month, Churros and Chocolate, will take place Monday, September 23rd starting at 7:30 am on our playlot. If time permits, please join us for a tasty treat and great music prior to the start of the school day. Stay tuned for additional details around other upcoming events for this month.
Our Safety Week is also happening. During this week, we will take time to involve ourselves in a number of our school-wide drills. The first being our lockdown drill on Monday, September 16th.
At the end of the week, our Friends of Jahn will have school-wide participation in their Husky Hustle. If you have not, please take a moment and support this worthwhile event. Dr. Ferreras and I are patiently waiting to see if the school-wide goal will be achieved.
Many thanks to those who attended our Open House and parent rep orientation.
Please read below for a few updates and reminders.
Have an amazing week.

Upcoming Events/Dates:
Upcoming Lockdown Drill Notice: The safety of students, staff, and visitors is a top priority for CPS. To support this commitment, CPS conducts emergency preparedness drills on an annual basis, in line with the Illinois Safety Drill Act. The goal of these safety drills is to create a sense of safety for students while explaining the purpose of the drills in a developmentally appropriate way.
The Illinois Safety Drill Act (105 ILCS 128), requires a hard lockdown drill be conducted annually. Our lockdown drill is scheduled for Monday, September 16th. If there is any reason why your child is not able to participate in this drill, please contact the main office at 773.534.5500.
Quarter 1 Progress Reports - Thursday, September 26th. Progress reports will be distributed to students on this day.
Drop-off Safety: Please assist us with the safety for everyone by not dropping students off in the crosswalk. We have a number of curbside areas where students can be dropped off.
CPS Calendar: This link provides you with the 2024-25 CPS Calendar. It includes days off and vacations. Please work to schedule trips or appointments during times students are not in school. Our school day starts promptly at 8 am. A detailed calendar that includes specific dates for Jahn events is forthcoming.
Meal Menus: All students, except half day Pre-K, receive free breakfast and lunch regardless of income. Students can also bring their own nut-free lunch. CPS meal menus are here: CPS Meal viewer - Jahn
