Principal Message - October 16th

Greetings Husky Families

I hope and trust that you had a great weekend.  For those who were able to join us on Saturday for our Pumpkin Patch, it was a blast!!!!   If you missed the event, you missed a treat.  Many thanks to our Friends of Jahn and the host of volunteers who showed Mother Nature that the inclement weather could not stop us.

I would also like to briefly put an emphasis on a more difficult discussion.  As a former Social Studies teacher, seeing what’s happening in the Palestinian and Israeli region is horrifying.  When I think of the events, I want to make sure that we also take time to support our Jahn families.  Please know that we are here and extend tons of empathy to those impacted.  If you feel that your child needs support, please let us know.  #JahnUnited.

Below are a number of resources from the district to assist in conversations at home:

"When Bad Things Happen (courtesy of Learning for Justice)

How to Talk to Kids About Violence, Crime, and War; How do I talk to my kids about violence in the news?; Explaining the News to Our Kids (courtesy of Common Sense Media)

Resilience in a time of war: Tips for parents and teachers of elementary school children; Tips for parents and teachers of middle school children (courtesy of the American Psychological Association)

How to talk to your children about conflict and war (courtesy of UNICEF)

In wake of these events, I would encourage you to monitor your children’s social media use, due to the presence of misinformation and disturbing images.  Also encourage your children to refrain from viewing, commenting, or promoting anything that depicts violence of hate.

Have an amazing week.

Reminder: Upcoming Engagement Opportunities

The District is hosting a series of five “State of the District” briefings in the coming weeks that will allow members of our school communities to hear about the District’s current successes and challenges, as well as learn about ways they can get involved in helping shape the District’s next strategic plan. Please feel free to use the language below in your upcoming newsletters or other communications with your families to remind them of these opportunities. You can adjust it as needed based on the meeting locations that are most geographically convenient for your school community.
