Principal Message - April 17th

Greetings Husky Community 

 

It’s another great week at Jahn School of Fine Arts.  As we continue to usher in the everchanging weather that comes with the month of April, I am excited to build on and grow into our SEL theme for the month, Self Care.  Last week, I shared with you a number of resources to assist in implementing this theme.  For the remainder of the month, I will share with our student body a self care tip.  Today’s tip focused on finding “quiet time.”  This time is where you do absolutely nothing.  Start small with five minutes and see how many additional minutes can be added.  Take a moment and see if you can try this tip at home.  

I also wanted to take a moment to say thank you to everyone who supported our Friends of Jahn, Give to Grow event on Saturday.  It was great to see so many families and hear about their child’s experience at Jahn.  It was also great to see that the goal was reached and exceeded.  #thankful   

Finally, as we continue to amplify our student voices across the school, I would like to take a moment to highlight another group.  Allow me to introduce to you our Instructional Assistant.  This team is responsible for developing tutoring programs to support students in our primary and intermediate grades.  Our solo member of this team is Essence D.  Please take a moment to celebrate her for taking on this role.  

In the coming weeks, there are a number of things happening on the Jahn campus.  One thing to mention for this week is that any after school programming on Thursday will be canceled because of our final staff FLEX day.

Spring Pictures:  Tomorrow is Spring Picture Day.  Only students who have pre-paid or bring in an order form will take pictures.  There are no retakes for this photography session.  

School Yearbooks:  It’s that time of year again.  You have a short window to order your yearbook.  You can either stop by the school to place your order or through the school’s website.  Please check out the link here for details.  

2022-23 Jahn Yearbook Dates
Last day for families to order yearbooks: Wednesday, April 26th
Estimated delivery date to school: June 12th 

Pre-K Application Window/Open House:  The window for Pre-K applications is April 11 through May 2. We will have an open house for prospective parents on Monday, April 24 from 4 to 5:30 pm.  Families will have the opportunity to complete applications on site, visit classrooms, and meet with members of our pre-k staff.  Applications can also be completed online at chicagoearlylearning.com.  

My Voice, My School Parent/Guardian Survey:  The annual Parent/Guardian Survey portion of My Voice, My School is now available.  The survey will close April 30th.  If you have any questions, please email [email protected].  

Kiss and Go:  Please assist us with before and after school traffic.  We encourage you to drop your child(ren) off and go.  Stopping in the intersection and sitting for extended times does not help with the flow of traffic.  Please assist us in our efforts to make arrivals and dismissals safe for everyone.  

Koffee With Kimbrough (Wednesday, April 26th - 8:30 am):  In wake of incidents happening across our nation, we would like to assure you that we continuously take steps to ensure the safety of your children and every adult in this building.  During my next Koffee With Kimbrough, I will spend time speaking about what we do as a school to make sure our building is safe and secure.
