Principal Message - March 6th

Greetings Husky Community

The month of March provides us with the opportunity to celebrate Women’s History Month.  While the month was not fully recognized until 1987, women have made significant contributions to society long before then.  I am excited to see how our students celebrate women during this month and beyond.

If you did not get a chance to visit the campus during the month of February, you missed a treat.  While our students did a number of things around the campus to celebrate, we were excited to have our Jahn family here for our Black History month assembly.  Every grade level across the school was represented during the performances.  It was truly a memorable event.  Stay tuned for more activities like this throughout the remainder of the year.

March also brings us a new SEL theme, Creating Solutions/Problem Solving.  This theme is an area of growth for me.  Pay attention as I go on this month-long journey to enhance my problem solving skills.

Please be mindful of the additional announcements below:

Kiss and Go:  In an effort to support student transitions during arrival, we are asking all parents/guardians to drop off students and depart from the auditorium.  While we know that adults are concerned, I can assure you that we have a number of staff members who are supervising our students.

Inclement Weather:  Unless there are harsh weather conditions (below 45 degrees, rain or snow), students will remain outside during the morning.  As always, staff members will be outside to support student arrival.  When the weather conditions are bad, students will enter the building at 7:45 am and remain in the auditorium with their class until 8 am.  With the change of weather, we encourage students to dress accordingly.

Recess Weather Guidelines:  Ideally, recess should take place outdoors on school grounds as weather, space and safety permit. Outdoor recess allows children to get fresh air, provides an opportunity for children to engage in moderate to vigorous physical activity and gives students more activity options than most indoor spaces. Outdoor recess is an important part of a child’s school day. Below are the guidelines for determining whether recess is held indoors or outdoors each day.

Weather Recess Held
Above 32 degrees with or without a wind chill Outdoors
15 to 32 degrees with or without wind chill Principal Discretion
Below 15 degrees with or without wind chill Indoors

Drop-offs and Traffic Route:  For the safety of all, please do not drop students off in the crosswalk.  We have a number of curbside areas where students can be dropped off.

Please assist us by following the traffic pattern shared with families earlier this year.  We will attempt to be out there before and after school.  In cases where we are not, there should only be one way traffic on Wolcott heading north.
