Greetings Husky Community
As we walk into our second week of the third quarter of learning, I am filled with excitement. First off, it’s great to have our students and staff back in the building. While the break was great, it’s always better to witness learning. Secondly, I loved walking around the building last week and seeing the Jahn family bringing January’s SEL theme to life (Goal Setting/Growth Mindset). Seeing the exchange of dialogue and information sharing was priceless. Moments like this add to my list, “The Reasons Why I Love Jahn.” If you have not had the chance, please speak with your child around what goals were set.
There are a number of volunteer opportunities for the Jahn community. First off, our Parent Advisory Council (PAC) meets this Thursday (8:15 am) and our Jahn Arts Council (JAC) meets on Friday immediately after school. We are also seeking members for our Diverse Learners Council (DLC). The council is a great way to support ideas connected to our diverse learners' programming. Whether or not your child is a diverse learner, this council is a great way to show support. This month’s Koffee With Kimbrough topic was Diverse Learners Programming At Jahn. For those who could not attend, the presentation is here: Koffee With Kimbrough 1.12.23
Please take a moment to read the announcements and the upcoming events.
Diverse Learners Council (DLC): Come be a part of our DLC. The DLC is a standing committee under the Jahn Local School Council (LSC) that serves to empower families of students with disabilities and advise the LSC. Please reach out to Melissa Hamby [email protected], Shantel Kheyo at [email protected], or contact the main office.
i-Ready/Star360 Middle of Year (MOY) testing: The MOY testing window for i-Ready and Star360 is January 9 - January 27. Students at Jahn will begin testing for both assessments as follows: i-Ready testing (Grades K-2): January 11-25 and Star360 (Grades 3-8) will be held January 17-27.
Drop-offs and Traffic Route: For the safety of all, please do not drop students off in the crosswalk. We have a number of curbside areas where students can be dropped off.
Please assist us by following the traffic pattern shared with families earlier this year. We will attempt to be out there before and after school. In cases where we are not, there should only be one way traffic on Wolcott heading north.
Inclement Weather: Unless there are harsh weather conditions (below 45 degrees, rain or snow), students will remain outside during the morning. As always, staff members will be outside to support student arrival. When the weather conditions are bad, students will enter the building at 7:45 am and remain in the auditorium with their class until 8 am. With the change of weather, we encourage students to dress accordingly.
School Fees: Our Local School Council approved student fees for this year of $75 per student (with a maximum of three students per family). School fees will be used to cover supplies, books, and SEL activities. Students in Pre-K are not required to pay fees, but can donate an amount, if they choose.
