Greetings Husky Families
Our Holiday break is almost here!!! In less than a week, we will say farewell to our first two quarters of learning. When I reflect on my Jahn experience thus far, I am overwhelmed with excitement. Who knew when I stepped on this campus that I would be embraced by enthusiastic students, a welcoming staff, and a warm community. The first half of this school year has definitely been a fun-filled adventure. Not only have I witnessed engaging learning around the building, we were also fortunate to spend time sharing the experiences of other cultures and participating in an array of celebrations. I am proud to be a part of this diverse place of learning. Thank you for allowing me to be a part of Husky nation.
Our accomplishments during the first half of the year could not have been possible without you. Including you in how we do things is important. Personally, I feel that in order to be better, we must take time to focus on the 3 R’s (Relax, Reflect, and Reset). With that, I solicit your feedback on your child’s experience. Please take a moment to complete this anonymous survey. This will assist us in continuing to meet the needs of our children. The survey can be found here: Jahn Parent/Guardian Survey.
All that you have seen during the first half of this year will continue. Stay tuned, there is more to come. Again, thank you for making the first half of this year special. Have a wonderful Winter break.
A big shout out to the Bilingual Advisory Council (BAC) for hosting the Multicultural Pot-luck. It was great to experience numerous cultures through food and music. I would also like to thank the Jahn Arts Council and Friends of Jahn for hosting the Artisan’s Market on Saturday. The event was a huge success.
Please take a moment to check out what’s happening around the Jahn campus.

COVID-19 Testing: As we continue to move into cold and flu season, you are encouraged to keep your child home if they show signs of being sick. This is also a reminder that the District continues to offer free, weekly in-school COVID-19 testing to students and staff who complete the new consent form for the 2022-23 school year. The form is available here, and once completed, consent will remain in place until students leave CPS. Testing at Jahn is every Wednesday.
Similar to Thanksgiving Break, students and staff will be provided rapid tests this week and are encouraged to take the tests on Sunday, January 8th.
i-Ready/Star360 Middle of Year (MOY) testing: The MOY testing window for i-Ready and Star360 is January 9 - January 27. Students at Jahn will begin testing for both assessments as follows: i-Ready testing (Grades K-2): January 11-25 and Star360 (Grades 3-8) will be held January 17-27. Additional information will be sent home with your child.
Local School Council (LSC) Parent Rep: Jahn Elementary’s Local School Council has an open Parent Representative spot!
If you’re interested in influencing school decisions and have a child at Jahn, please reach out or send an application to [email protected]. We’d especially like to see more representation from grades 4th and up.
We’re accepting applications between now and January 6th and plan to appoint a new representative during the January 11th LSC meeting.
Diverse Learners Council (DLC): Come be a part of our DLC. The DLC is a standing committee under the Jahn Local School Council (LSC) that serves to empower families of students with disabilities and advise the LSC. Please reach out to the school for further information.
Drop-offs and Traffic Route: For the safety of all, please do not drop students off in the crosswalk. We have a number of curbside areas where students can be dropped off.
Please assist us by following the traffic pattern shared with families earlier this year. We will attempt to be out there before and after school. In cases where we are not, there should only be one way traffic on Wolcott heading north.
Inclement Weather: Unless there are harsh weather conditions (below 45 degrees, rain or snow), students will remain outside during the morning. As always, staff members will be outside to support student arrival. When the weather conditions are bad, students will enter the building at 7:45 am and remain in the auditorium with their classroom until 8 am. With the change of weather, we encourage students to dress accordingly.
School Fees: Our Local School Council approved student fees for this year of $75 per student (with a maximum of three students per family). School fees will be used to cover supplies, books, and SEL activities. Students in Pre-K are not required to pay fees, but can donate an amount, if they choose.
