We'll be hosting two Anti-Racism / Anti-Bias speaker sessions on May 23rd and May 31st from 5pm - 6pm, held virtually via Zoom (link in on events calendar). Session #1 will be a Parent Perspective from Dr. Ursula Ricketts, a parent at Walter Payton High School. Session #2 will be a review and feedback session on a draft Anti-Racism / Anti-Bias curriculum map for SY 2022-2023. Speaker Session #1 on May 23rd: Dr. Ursula Ricketts’ will be sharing her experience in public education, and how she changed the landscape for students and families of color in her school community. While there is no guidebook to parent empowerment, we encourage you to engage in conversation about one mother’s journey in navigating the inequities of education as a parent of color. Dr. Ursula Ricketts was a CPS teacher who started Payton Parents of Color. Engage with us as we learn, discuss and ask questions. Speaker Session #2 on May 31st: Draft Curriculum Map - Feedback and discussion on draft Anti-Racist / Anti-Bias curriculum map at Jahn. Topics of race and bias are all around us and our children. As we work to apply Illinois’ education standards related to Equity, we’re creating a K-8 curriculum map that brings topics of race, bias, identity, intersectionality, etc into our curriculum.
