Principal Message 1/31

I hope this email finds you well, and that you are prepared for the next winter storm to arrive on Tuesday evening!

We held our January LSC meeting last week on Wednesday, January 26th.  I am sharing the LSC Principal Report for your review.  Also, LSC elections will be held this spring, and everyone is encouraged to run for a position!  If interested, please contact our LSC coordinator, Margo Innocente, in the main office for more information and to get an application packet.  Applications are due in the main office by 3pm on Friday, March 4th.  Candidates must bring the original application to the main office, as we are unable to accept the application via email or fax.  The candidate forum date will be announced soon.

CPS delivered KN95 masks for our staff.  We have enough for about one mask per staff member.  We also have an abundance of other types of masks, including surgical masks for staff members.  We have not received our shipment of student KN95 masks at this time.

Lawsuits have been brought to the State that may result in the court issuing a Temporary Restraining Order (TRO), which would prevent CPS from enforcing certain health and safety protocols, including mask mandates.  No decision has been made.  However, If the court does issue a TRO, I encourage our school community to continue to wear masks as this is one of the best ways to keep each other safe and healthy.

CPS announced that our District will adopt the new 5-day quarantine/isolation period.  Here’s what the change to a 5-day quarantine/isolation period will mean for your family:

  • Children who test positive for COVID-19, regardless of their vaccination status, will need to isolate and learn at home for five days rather than 10.
  • Children who are not yet vaccinated or are not up to date on their COVID-19 vaccines, and who have been identified as close contacts of someone who has tested positive for COVID-19, will need to quarantine and learn at home for 5 days rather than 10.
  • Children who are up to date on their COVID-19 vaccines, and who have been identified as close contacts of someone who has tested positive for COVID-19 will not have to quarantine at all.

Getting your children vaccinated is not only the best way to keep them in school — it’s the best way to protect them from being infected with COVID-19, and the best way to prevent severe symptoms if they do become infected. Visit cps.edu/vaccinations for a complete list of vaccine opportunities that are available weekly for your family.

In addition, Jahn will host a vaccination event on Thursday, February 3rd from 9-1 at the school.  Registration should be completed by following the steps on the vaccination flyer in English and Spanish.  Families are encouraged to get vaccinated as soon as possible.

Have a great week!

Sincerely,

Michael Herring
